Tunisia Live - Farah Samti - Former Tunisian First Lady, Leila Ben Ali, will publish her diaries in a book entitled “My Truth,” by the French publishing house Les Editions du Moment.
The book will be available in French book stores for 16 euros and can already be pre-ordered on Amazon.com, with a publication date of May 24th. The book’s publishers, Les Editions du Moment, confirmed that the Ben Ali memoirs are “in the process of being prepared” but refused to comment further, except to say that the date of publication had not yet been finalized.
The news that the former First Lady will publish her memoirs has created a buzz throughout social networks, namely Twitter and Facebook. Many comments made by Tunisians had the expression “un livre à boycotter” (French for “a book to boycott”.)
Leila Ben Ali is a controversial figure in Tunisia, having fled to Saudia Arabia with her husband, former President Zine Al Abidine Ben Ali during a popular uprising in January 2011. Many Tunisians want to see the pair deported to Tunisia to face allegations of corruption and oppression.
