Saudi Gazette - RIYADH — Riyadh Police are looking for a sponsor of a Sri Lankan housemaid who allegedly did not pay her wages for about 15 years. Apparently, in order to shirk his responsibility, the sponsor brought the maid to the Housemaid Service Center of Riyadh Police and has since vanished in thin air, Al-Riyadh Arabic newspaper said.
The center launched a wide search for the sponsor but to no avail. As part of its humanitarian gesture, the center paid SR75,000 to the housemaid suffering from deteriorating health and psychological condition. The money was paid to her after the center coordinated with the committee to resolve housemaids’ dispute in the Ministry of Social Affairs. Later the housemaid was sent back to her home in Sri Lanka. Riyadh Police would claim back the amount from the sponsor as and when he is located, a police source said. The Sri Lankan housemaid, Kosoma Tandani, didn’t take her salaries for 15 years because she asked the sponsor to keep the amount with himself and give it to her when she decides to leave the Kingdom for good. However, the sponsor later allegedly backtracked and dumped her at the Housemaid Service Center. — SG
