Grand Mufti calls for dialogue about the internet

Mosque imams are partners in progress

They should reactivate the role of the mosque in evaluating and correcting our living conditions. The imams should spread the culture of communal responsibility in development projects and motivate people to enhance the positive aspects and get rid of the negative sides.

Abu Qatada freed – but banned from leading prayers

The Independent - Terri Judd - The radical cleric Abu Qatada was freed from prison last night as the Government was accused of being impotent and cavalier with national security.

Earlier, at the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (Siac), Mr Justice Mitting set some of the strictest bail conditions available for a man described as a "truly dangerous individual".

Salafism is only an approach, says justice minister

By ARAB NEWS - RIYADH: Minister of Justice Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Kareem Al-Issa said Salafism should not be interpreted as Islam at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh.

The minister said in reply to a question by the rector of the university: “Salafism is only a descriptive approach, not a name. This means we obey the ancestors’ belief and values in understanding Islam, which is a moderate approach practiced by the late King Abdul Aziz who founded our Kingdom based on this approach.”

Ifta wants Kashghari tried for apostasy

By ARAB NEWS - RIYADH: In a new development in the case of Saudi writer Hamza Kashghari, who wrote a few tweets that were considered slanderous to Almighty Allah and His Prophet (peace be upon him), the Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Religious Edicts (Ifta) issued a strongly worded statement in which it said mocking Allah or His Prophet is a downright sacrilegious act, kufr (infidelity) and apostasy that should no go undetected, local daily Al-Eqtisadiah reported Thursday.
